Wallpaper is traditionally priced per single roll in advertising, but almost universally sold and packaged as continuous "double rolls" (approx. 56 sq ft) to allow longer uninterrupted vertical strips with fewer seams.
When wallpaper has a 20-inch pattern repeat, each strip must be shifted down up to 20 inches to match motifs with the adjacent panel. The cut-off header scrap cannot be used elsewhere, resulting in 15% to 25% waste.
Wallpaper printed in separate factory production runs has subtle ink tone variations. If you run short by half a roll, a new batch will visibly mismatch. Ordering 1 extra reserve roll guarantees seamless dye-lot consistency.
